Ok so here are things that caught my eye throughout the episode so do be warned these are all spoilers obviously......
First of all the opening was great, since I was really curious as to who Applejack could possibly be talking to using that voice since I have never heard her using it and an apple tree was just perfect. One thing that confused me though, is idk where Applejack is on this train, since she isn't in the room with the tree or with the other ponies so isn't seen from about the 2nd minute to the 6th minute in part one (I bring this up because Rarity may have had a point, as Applejack seems to have thought it through).
Then comes the other ponies after the intro, one of my favorite parts with after they shut off the lights and Rarity and Spike being the two that are really wanting to go to sleep finally getting their way and then Rainbow Dash moving to where Spike's bed is directly in the background to talk was amusing....the whole fluttershy=tree thing was epic, not to mention fluttershy cracking a joke with huffy the magic dragon.
I'm not really quite sure how Applejack magically reappears or how nopony was watching pinkie pie while on a speeding train and how she was able to escape off of the train is beyond me (but trying to understand the ways of pinkie pie is just kinda a waste of time so I'm ok with this). Continuing on with Pinkie Pie's excellence as a great side character with Rainbow Dash...if nepony is gonna be out there with dash it needs to be pinkie pie. The looks on the audience's faces when Pinkie Pie begins her song is priceless. Also I do enjoy the fact that Pinkie Pie, in fact, has a great idea and the one that they eventually agree to, but has to present in Pinkie Pie fashion so of course goes unnoticed as her antics become the center of attention.
Twilight said everybody at 5:42 of part 2....
I also do enjoy Pinkie Pie noticing that the buffalo were not going to charge, thus went out of her way to make sure that they would (thats wat I'm going with, Pinkie Pie wanted to see someone murdered). Also for an episode having a lot to do with apples, Applejack sure did disappear a lot as I can't find her throughout the battle scene tho I see every other pony. And of course a Pinkie Pie finish is best finish.
Dear Princess Celestia,
Friendship is a great and powerful thing: if you want some land that belongs to creatures that don't "properly" use it just take it. They will get upset and will want their land back, but by using the power of friendship you can act as though you are friends give them the leftovers of what you don't actually need, give them a small sliver of their land back to make them feel like they didn't lose all of it and then continue on with your business and everything will work out in your favor.
I do apologize for the quality of the commentary...its 4am and I haven't got much sleep due to the question if Fluttershy falls in the Everfree Forest and nopony is around to hear her does she make a sound?
I'm surprised you would take that outlook on the episode's message. Nothing in the episode implied that the settler ponies knew the land belonged to the buffalo before they put the orchard up. They didn't even know what the buffalo needed the land for. And the show made no commentary on which use of the land, if any, was superior to the other. I think the episode did a nice job of encouraging viewers to discuss problems and work out a compromise.
ReplyDeleteOne more minor correction - Twilight says "anybody", not "everybody." Is using the term "anypony" instead of "anybody" as common as using "everypony" instead of "everybody"?
I'm glad this wasn't an Apple Jack episode. It seemed pretty balanced, with a little less Fluttershy than the other ponies (which is fine).
Nice catch on the mysterious vanishing of Apple Jack - I didn't notice that. One more plot hole I'm interested in - what did the buffalo do for food? Do the settler ponies rely solely on apples to live? Pinkie Pie's song suggests otherwise, and obviously Pinkie can't be wrong.
Was there really no Derpy in this episode? I never catch him on screen, but I assume you would have pointed him out in the commentary if he did make an appearance.
The outlook came from my view that the situation resembled that of the settlers coming over to America and the Native Americans (I Know its a cowboys and Indians theme though). I have a long and drawn out argument for why I believe this works, but I wasn't signed in and decided that it wasn't worth making you read it when I could just blurt it out at some point later.
ReplyDeleteAs for the message of the episode, I completely agree, the outlook that I presented was one that I came up with as a deeper meaning from the episode...not the actual one that was presented as the episode does very clearly get out the message of sharing and caring in good fashion. I dug deeper and basically made up my own variation of a message similar to the south park episode where people find deeper meanings in "Butter's" books even though there was none there....Though I'm not sure why I am presented this info as by me making some sort of odd outlook from the episode makes for my blog to be a more interesting and conversationable read, yet I don't need you thinking I have more brain problems than I have already presented to you.
You are right she does say anybody and I don't need to go back and look that up, because I know that you are right and I am not sure why I made that mistake in the first place. But, that was a good point and made me do some research (o joy)
Episode 3: Rainbow Dash uses anybody, but later uses anypony
Episode 4: uses anypony
Episode 6: uses anypony
Episode 8: uses anypony
Episode 10: uses anypony
Episode 12: uses anypony
Episode 13: uses anypony
Episode 20: uses anypony
Episode 21: uses anybody
so the truth of the matter is that the phrase anypony is not used all that much in the series, yet since ticket master it has always been anypony up until this point.
As for what the buffalo ate...they gave dash and pinkie that unknown "mushy stuff" that dash had none of, but pinkie of course finished and asked for seconds...whether that was something the buffalo always ate or not idk tho.
Ah, I see where you're coming from. The episode obviously parallels historical events during which the settlers were not so kind or sharing. The episode works to further perpetuate a myth we love to tell children about how cooperative and nice we were when we first arrived in this country. So the show's message wasn't a bad thing, but the fact that they put a good message over actual historical events implies that the "sharing and caring" approach was used in real life, which isn't the case.
ReplyDeleteNice work on the anypony research. I'm OK with the slip. Even though Twilight was clearly referring to only ponies when she said the line, it can be seen as a subtle reminder that it's not just the ponies that are being unreasonable.
applejack ftw!
ReplyDeleteim very disappointed that this blog has not updated recently
